Overview
This article outlines the approved use of digital devices (laptops, tablets, mobile phones, etc.) within clinical environments to ensure safe, secure, and hygienic practices.
What Devices Are Approved?
- Laptops & iPads: Provided by HealthCompany or approved BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
- Workstation on Wheels (WoWs): For bedside charting and mobile care
- Clinical-use phones: Sanitizable mobile devices issued for internal communication
Usage Guidelines
- Patient Privacy First
- Do not leave devices unattended near patient data
- Lock screens when not in use
- Use privacy screens where possible
- Hygiene Standards
- Wipe devices with approved disinfectant wipes before and after each shift
- Avoid taking personal devices into isolation areas
- Keep device surfaces free of stickers or paper notes
- Device Sharing
- Log out completely before handing a device to another staff member
- Do not store passwords in browsers or apps
- Charging Devices
- Use hospital-approved charging stations
- Do not run power cords across high-traffic areas
Unapproved Devices
Personal laptops, phones, USBs, and smartwatches are not to be used for accessing clinical systems unless explicitly approved by IT and Infection Control.
